American Canoe Association (ACA) Workshops

Quickstart Your Canoe: Level 1
Dates: TBA Time:    9:00am to 12:00pm Fee:  $25/member or $30/non-member
A brief, three-hour introduction to paddling a canoe. Students are presented with basic information on boat control, paddling apparel, potential hazards and simple rescues. An entry level of paddling skills is presented and practiced, allowing students to safely and effectively maneuver on flat-water. While designed as stand-alone courses, the interested paddler can progress to more advanced levels of instruction.   PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Introduction to Canoe (Solo) Workshop: Level 1
Dates: TBA Time:    9:00am to 4:00pm  Fee: $70/member or $80/non-member
A 1 day course focusing on the basic canoe skills for the solo and/or tandem canoeist. Students are presented with basic information on boat control, paddling apparel, potential hazards and simple rescues. An entry level of paddling skills is presented and practiced, allowing students to safely and effectively maneuver on flat-water.   PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Introduction to Canoe (Tandem) Workshop: Level 1
Date:  TBA Time:   9:00am-4:00pm Fee: $70/member or $80/non-member
A 1 day course focusing on the basic canoe skills for the tandem canoeist. Students are presented with basic information on boat control, paddling apparel, potential hazards and simple rescues. An entry level of paddling skills is presented and practiced, allowing students to safely and effectively maneuver on flat-water. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Essentials of River Canoeing (2 Days) Workshop
Dates:  TBA         Time:   9:00am to 3:30pm 
The Class I-II conditions on upper Deer Creek and the wind and waves of the Susquehanna are waiting! Join our ACA Certified Instructor on this two day course reviews skills from Intro to Canoe and builds new skills on moving water with lots of hands-on-the-water time.  PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.


Canoe Programs

Family Canoe Trips
Dates: Thursday evenings & Saturday Mornings from May- SeptemberTime: 5:45 PM-approximately 8:30 PM (Thursdays)
Fee: $5/member or $/non-member                                                                     8:15 AM - 11AM (Saturdays)
Join us for a guided hike, but on the water in a canoe!  This program is designed to acquaint participants with the natural surroundings of Deer Creek.  Exploration of the environment is enhanced by the use of canoes to travel along the creek.  The emphasis, during these relaxed excursions, is on environmental education and interpretation, provided by the naturalist who accompanies the group.  PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.  Click here for more information about these trips!
