Program: The program is designed to acquaint the participant with the natural surroundings on Deer Creek at Eden Mill. Exploration of the environment, both the land and the water, is enhanced by the use of canoes to travel along Deer Creek. The emphasis, during these relaxed excursions is on environmental education and interpretation, provided by the naturalist who accompanies the group. It is a quiet time of learning, exploration, and enjoying nature. Basic paddling instruction is provided before the trip. Canoes, paddles, and personal floatation devices (lifejackets) are provided. This is a "flatwater" paddle-no rapids or riffles are encountered.
Location: All trips originate and end at the Eden Mill Nature Center
Dates: Thursday evenings & Saturday Mornings, June through Mid September.
Times: Program starts at 5:45 PM , Ends approximately 8:30 PM (Thursdays) or 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM (Saturdays)
Cost: $8.00/person for non-members OR $5.00/person for members. Large group trips require a $50.00 minimum non-refundable deposit, regardless of number of participants. All participants must be 6 years or older!

Maximum Canoe Capacities: 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 small children. Final placemnet of participants is up to the sole discretion of the trip leaders. Each child 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult responsible for that child's safety and behavior. The total weight per canoe cannot exceed 600 pounds. Participants are not allowed to bring or use their own canoes. Each canoe must have at least two able paddlers.
Adult Supervision: Each child 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult (1 child=1 adult; 2 children= 2 adults). Because of insurance restrictions, children less than 6 years of age may not join the excursion. .
Personal Flotation Devices (Lifejackets): A properly fitted and secured PFD must be worn by each participant at all times while in the canoe. Program leaders will refuse to place any participant in a canoe if they do not agree to wear a properly fitted PFD at all times. Participants can bring their own standard Type II or Type III non-inflatable PFDs if the wish., but program leaders reserve the right to inspect it. If for any reason EMNC staff feels the PFD does not meet insurance company standards, the participant must wear the PFD provided by EMNC in order to participate.
Refunds: Generally fees paid will not be refundable; however refunds based on weather and other factors will be at the sole discretion of EMNC Board of Directors based on the recommendations of the trip leaders. Any refunds will be mailed at a later date. Trip rescheduling may be accommodated.
